Hello, beautiful being, and welcome to this episode of Come to Your Senses. I am delighted to be here with you today.
Right now, there's a soft rain falling outside that, no matter where I am in my house, I cannot seem to escape the pitter-patter of. So, if you hear a crackling sound in the background, just know that it has a very romantic, cozy origin.
This is a time of year where, inside our bodies, there is a natural drawing inward. You might notice yourself wanting to be indoors more often, staying cozy and cuddled up, lighting a candle, or snuggling into a reading nook.
Part of this is an instinctive, ancestral knowing that, just like the earth prepares for her great slumber after the harvest season, our bodies—being of the earth—follow that same inner rhythm.
Of course, modern advances, like those brought by the Industrial Revolution, have allowed us to dramatically depart from those natural rhythms. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I’m grateful, for example, that I can visit Walgreens at midnight on a Tuesday if I feel myself coming down with something.
Still, while there are gains from such advances, there are also losses. Or perhaps not losses exactly, but the soft whispers of our natural rhythms often become drowned out by the noise of hustle and bustle.

But I’ve also learned the hard way about the dangers of impulse spending. After buying my first home in 2020, I dove headfirst into Black Friday sales on Wayfair to furnish my new space. Let’s just say that a lot of those purchases ended up on Facebook Marketplace a year later!
